State of Origin 2016: Bryce Cartwright and James Tedesco set for NSW debuts in game three

THE future has arrived for NSW. Blues coach Laurie Daley is ready to debut two more rising stars in State of Origin III at ANZ Stadium.

Loz & Dog: How will the Blues tackle game three?

NSW ARE ready to blood two more rising stars with Penrith’s Bryce Cartwright and Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco being heavily discussed to make their debuts in State of Origin III.

Blues coach Laurie Daley is reluctant to make wholesale changes for the dead rubber but is closely monitoring the pair, whose form is proving almost too hard to ignore.

Ironically, Cartwright and Tedesco will confront each other on Saturday afternoon when the Tigers host the Panthers at ANZ Stadium.

Bold showings from both players could seal their places in the NSW side to play Queensland at the same venue on Wednesday week.

Tedesco was poised to be selected for game one before a left shoulder injury cost him his place.

Even if Tedesco is picked, Penrith’s Matt Moylan may still retain his place at fullback. The NSW camp want Tedesco’s speed and think he could easily switch to the wing. Cartwright’s strength and ball-playing prowess makes him an ideal bench candidate.

NSW have already debuted six players this series — Moylan, Dylan Walker, Adam Reynolds, Jack Bird, Josh Mansour and Tyson Frizell.

The new era for NSW has arrived.

Frizell will definitely retain his place after a blockbusting performance in game two at Suncorp Stadium. Daley would then have to find a place for Cartwright.

Bulldogs flyer Brett Morris returned successfully from injury last weekend but it unlikely to be considered.

Daley will also look at back-rower Wade Graham, who was cruelly robbed of his Origin debut a fortnight ago after being suspended for a grade one high tackle on Johnathan Thurston just minutes before his NSW selection was made official.

Sydney Roosters’ second-rower Boyd Cordner is racing the clock to be fit for Thursday night’s clash with Canterbury after suffering a toe injury in Origin I. Cordner hasn’t been named in coach Trent Robinson’s side in what would be his last chance to prove his fitness for Origin.

The competition for bench spots is strong with Cartwright, Graham and potentially Cordner challenging game two incumbents Greg Bird, David Klemmer, Andrew Fifita and Jack Bird to positions.

Despite a push for them to be dropped in favour of new faces, Daley will retain veterans Paul Gallen and Robbie Farah.

NSWRL chief executive David Trodden guaranteed Gallen, who will play his final Origin game, would receive a memorable farewell in Sydney.

“In every era, there are maybe one or two players that define that era. In this era, that player is Paul Gallen,” Trodden said. “So for that reason, it is important to make sure that his final game for NSW is celebrated appropriately.”

The NSW side will be announced on Monday before the team fly to their Coffs Harbour camp on Tuesday. The squad will return to Sydney on Sunday where they will head into another camp at Sydney Olympic Park.
