Sky’s the limit for lanky Blues bolter Campbell Graham

South Sydney’s Campbell Graham has emerged as a NSW Origin bolter but the teenager is only worried about one thing, when he’ll stop growing.

With incumbent New South Wales winger Tom Trbojevic unavailable for game one, Graham’s form has captured the attention of Blues coach Brad Fittler.

At 19, he has cemented his place in the Rabbitohs’ backline as the club has climbed to the top of the table.

But what he hasn’t been able to hold down is his height.

The Coogee Wombats junior told The Daily Telegraph he is now even taller than the 197 centimetres listed as his official height when he made his NRL debut in 2017.

“I reckon I’m about two centimetres taller, I think I had my main growth spurt when I was around 16 and now I’m just trying to fill out. I don’t know if I'll stop growing anytime soon but hopefully my growing days are over,” he said.

While Graham is done growing vertically, the naturally lanky winger is constantly working hard to pile on the pounds and was relieved when asked about the visible change in the composition of his body.

“I’m glad someone has noticed,” Graham said with a laugh.

“I was bit of a string bean back then, I still am actually. I need every kilo that I can get.

“It was tough in the pre-season, that’s when you really try to put on as much size as you can and now it’s about trying to maintain that during the year. I have put a few kilos since I have debuted a couple of years ago, I reckon I’ve gone up around three kilos.”

Rabbitohs nutritionist Ryan Pinto has worked closely with Graham, who weighs 95kg, to design a tailored diet plan to help the flyer not only keep the weight on.

Graham isn’t consigned to eating a regulated number of daily calories but does spend most of his day thinking about when his next meal will be.

“I try and eat as much as a I can around my meal times and making sure I am snacking on whatever I can too. It can be hard because you have to find the time to eat, like before the gym, then after the gym and then when I get home making sure I get a meal in there,” he said.

“Before bed I usually have a muffin with my tea. I can allow myself some junk food. I need any fat I can get.

“I’m fortunate enough to still live at home so my mum is always cooking for me which helps. I think I would struggle a bit if I lived out of home.”

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire handed Graham his NRL debut at Redfern when he was still a schoolboy.

On Saturday, Maguire will come up against his former club for the first time. And despite the less than amicable split between coach and club, Graham told The Daily Telegraph he holds Maguire in the highest regard.

“The one thing that sticks out to me, he [Maguire] said to me ‘if you’re good enough, you’re old enough’. He had to wait until I was 18 to give me my opportunity and once that came it was only a few weeks later he gave my NRL debut and showed a lot of belief in me. I’ll always have a lot of respect for him for that,” Graham said.
