Who flew and who flopped in Origin III 2018?

THERE were some true studs and awful duds when it came to Origin III at Suncorp Stadium. See who flew and who flopped with our player ratings for the final match of the 2018 series.

Billy Slater 7
Did all he could in his final Origin. Buzzed all around the park. Not quite man of the series stuff, but he can be proud. KEY STAT: A try assist, for the second Holmes try, was a great piece of football. Also had three line break assists.
FULLBACK
James Tedesco 7
Scored a good try, ran well and made some top shelf defensive reads but the intercept pass was costly. KEY STAT: Fifteen runs, the second most of any Blues players.
Valentine Holmes 8
Two tries and a crucial, perhaps game-winning interception. Been one of Queensland’s best all series. KEY STAT: Two intercepts – one for a try and an acrobatic game-saver.
WING
Tom Trbojevic 8
A terrific display. Ran for metres than anyone on the park. KEY STAT: His 235 metres were the most of any player.
Dane Gagai 7
In a different position he still worked like a mule. Unlucky not to score. KEY STAT: Eighteen runs, equal most of any player.
CENTRE
Latrell Mitchell 3
Just four runs and was caught out for the second Holmes try. One to forget. KEY STAT: Four runs for 30 metres, the lowest total for any player who played the 80 minutes.
Will Chambers 6
Got one back on Mitchell in a more composed display. KEY STAT: Eighteen tackles, many of them on Mitchell.
CENTRE
James Roberts 7
His best game of the series. Defended well and looked dangerous. KEY STAT: Got through 25 tackles, a big tally for a centre.
Corey Oates 5
Didn’t get opportunities and made two errors but carried the ball well. KEY STAT: Made 168 metres with some strong carries.
WING
Josh Addo-Carr 7
The game did not come to him but he went looking for it. His break gave NSW one last chance. KEY STAT: Three tackle busts and a line break when they were hard to come by.
Cameron Munster 8
When he runs, all things are possible. A rock Queensland can build around. KEY STAT: Two line breaks, the only player to get more than one.
5/8
James Maloney 4
One to forget. Couldn’t take control late. KEY STAT: Zero try assists after four in two games.
Daly Cherry-Evans 9
Under the harshest scrutiny imaginable, he was superb. Kicking game was outstanding and scored the winning try. KEY STAT: Forced several drop outs with great touches in the attacking 20.
H/BACK
Nathan Cleary 5
Like the first two games he ran well and tackled well, but couldn’t provide the spark. KEY STAT: Ran for 61 metres, a good total for a half.
Jai Arrow 7
Excelled with more minutes. The forward the Maroons can build around. KEY STAT: Two offloads, which helped move around the bigger Blues pack.
PROP
David Klemmer 5
Carried the ball well but missed Munster for the Cherry-Evans try and gave away a bad penalty in possession. KEY STAT: Averaged over ten metres per carry.
Andrew McCullough 3
Played the first 20 and was not sighted again. KEY STAT: Only about 25 minutes played.
HOOKER
Damien Cook 7
Great display around the ruck. He is one of the Blues best weapons. KEY STAT: Made 76 metres from just three runs. Choses his spots so well.
Josh Papalii 7
Made a huge difference to the middle. Queensland look better when he’s one. KEY STAT: His 125 metres were the most of any Queensland forward.
PROP
Paul Vaughan 3
Had a good opening quarter and did not return. A curious call from Fittler. KEY STAT: Made 23 tackles in roughly as many minutes.
Gavin Cooper 6
Toiled hard again and threw a sharp pass for Cherry-Evans’s try. KEY STAT: Made 125 metres and his 18 runs were the most of any Queensland forward.
2ND ROW
Boyd Cordner 7
Capped a great series with a fine captain’s knock. KEY STAT: Eleven runs, equal with Klemmer for the most by any Blues forward.
Felise Kaufusi 6
Probed the right edge and could have been more dangerous with more ball. KEY STAT: The only Maroons forward to break more than one tackle.
2ND ROW
Tyson Frizell 7
Was powerful early and gave the Blues thrust up the middle when they needed it late. KEY STAT: Made 28 tackles, the third most of any Blue.
Josh McGuire 7
Awful read for Tedesco’s try but made up for it with a top shelf second half. KEY STAT: Two missed tackles – didn’t allow the Tedesco misread to get to him.
LOCK
Jake Trbojevic 8
His best Origin performance. Big hits early and was smart with the ball. KEY STAT: Led the tackle count with 43.
Ben Hunt 6
Played big minutes at hooker and did well. It may be his rep spot going forward. KEY STAT: One line break assist – he gave Queensland more spark around the ruck.
I/CHANGE
Jack de Belin 6
Another tough performance. Was surprising he didn’t see more game time. KEY STAT: His seventh and final run was nearly the match-winner as he was caught just short.
Jarrod Wallace 6
His best game of the series but still not a dominant one. KEY STAT: Ten runs for 86 metres, both series highs.
I/CHANGE
Tariq Sims 5
Enjoyed a top debut until his tangle with Hunt, which proved costly. KEY STAT: They don’t count big hits but they probably should cause Sims had plenty.
Coen Hess 6
Like Wallace, he did much better than the previous two matches. KEY STAT: Ten runs for 96 metres, more than double his previous two totals.
I/CHANGE
Angus Crichton 4
Stint may have been too long. Made some bad errors under fatigue. KEY STAT: One error, a pass over the sideline when Roberts was in the clear, will haunt him.
Tim Glasby 5
Remains undefeated at Origin level. A solid display, helped lock up the middle. KEY STAT: Three Origins, three wins. Tim Who can’t stop winning.
I/CHANGE
Tyrone Peachey 4
Looked frantic when he came one and wasn’t able to pull it out. KEY STAT: One kick in play that gave away the final chance.
109
TOTAL
97
