The NSWRL will change its team announcement timing to ensure axed players have been informed before the media in future State of Origin build-ups.

Dumped Blues stars Latrell Mitchell and Angus Crichton were informed of their sackings while they were still on the field at the SCG after Sunday’s win over the Bulldogs.

“It’s not ideal when you can’t tell the players first,” said NSW Rugby League CEO Dave Trodden.

“It was a product of the particular circumstances with the Roosters playing in the last game of the round.

“We’ll have to look at the timing and in the future make sure the players have heard from the coach.

“Latrell and Angus remain valuable NSW representatives. It’s a shame it happened that way.”
