NSW ace James Tedesco won’t rest on his laurels at the top of rugby league

Acclaimed as the best player in the game, Blues flyer James Tedesco is far from satisfied with where he’s at — and Queensland are set to pay the price for his desires.

Pack domination key for Blues

Watch out Queensland, NSW fullback James Tedesco insists we haven’t seen his finest form yet.

Tedesco has been hailed the NRL’s best player with his standout form for the Sydney Roosters and the Blues this season.

It’s a mantle that is thoroughly deserved but one that doesn’t sit too well with the gun Roosters, NSW and Australian fullback.

“It is a bit weird to be honest, I definitely don’t feel as though I’m the best,” Tedesco told The Daily Telegraph.

“There are a lot of things in my game that I can work on and want to keep improving on.

“There are so many good players and good fullbacks as well.

“That makes me not want to rest on my laurels. It is good to get those compliments but I’ll stay humble and keep working hard to be at the top.”

Tedesco may be humble but his Roosters and Blues skipper Boyd Cordner is more than happy to do the talking for him.

Cordner has no doubts that ‘Teddy’ is the game’s finest footballer.

“His consistency blows people away and he deserves all the raps he is getting,” Cordner said.

“I expect to see more of the same in the decider.

“He is in a pretty rich vein of form at the moment and hopefully he can produce again for us in the decider.

“I think he is the best player in the game.”

Tedesco has won a premiership, an Origin series and played for Australia but he says it would be hard to topple a series sealing win in a decider on home soil in Sydney.

“It would be right up there,” he said.

“Origin is the pinnacle of footy. You are playing for your state and everyone is watching.

“It is the most intense and the biggest game you will play.

“You also can’t get much better than a decider in Sydney. It is a great opportunity for us, so I’m excited for the preparation ahead.”
