WITH Nathan Cleary ruled out with injury and Mitchell Moses struggling to fire for the Eels, an unlikely halves hero has emerged for the Blues.
Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary starred against the Knights on Sunday and has exploded into one the form playmakers of the competition.
But will new coach Brad Fittler opt to pick the man that reluctantly pledged his allegiance to the state of New South Wales?
Keary was born in Queensland and lived in the northern state until age 10, before moving with his parents to NSW. He even trained in a junior Maroons camp in 2012 but revised eligibility rules brought in that same year deemed him a future NSW player.
“I think I saw one of the NSW halves yesterday ... Keary. Tough, hard, runs to the line, puts his body on the line,” said Dean Ritchie.
Monday Bunker host Paul Crawley agreed saying the 26-year old possess the courage needed to succeed in the Origin arena.
“Luke Keary, as flamboyant as the third try was for the Roosters ... his second try when he ran over Brock Lamb, he ran at the line like he was Boyd Cordner ... he’s two games back from a broken jaw. He’s got immense courage.”
