Michael Morgan twitching on ground is awful look for rugby league

For NSW it was a night of jubilation but for the sport of rugby league one of its biggest stars lying on the ground prone and convulsing was a nightmare look.

Queensland may have actually lost State of Origin III the second star utility Michael Morgan was knocked out cold in a scary scene for both the player and the game alike.

With the scores locked at eight all, the Maroons were defending deep in the Blues’ half when the incident unfolded at ANZ Stadium early in the second half.

Morgan attempted to join a tackle on Blues star James Tedesco when he collided with state and club teammate Josh McGuire’s elbow.

It had been just over one week since he was also knocked out for North Queensland in the NRL and the second concussion left him convulsing on the ground as concerns were raised about his welfare.

“He comes around the back of Tedesco and bang, straight into McGuire’s elbow,” Phil Gould said in commentary on Channel 9.

“He’s out before he hits the ground. That’s terrible luck. Bang. Friendly fire.”

Maroons great Paul Vautin said: “He started twitching on the ground now, that’s not a good look. He’s got no idea where he is.”

After the game Queensland coach Kevin Walters tried to make light of the issue while giving Triple M an update and it might not go down to well with all the talk about the dangers of concussion in rugby league of late.

“He’s with us, he thinks we won, so we have to bring him down from that,”Walters quipped before getting serious.

”He’s OK, that was a big moment for us when we lost him. He was going to be vital for us — but he’s fine now.

Morgan is almost certain to miss out for the Cowboys this weekend when they face the Roosters on Sunday.
