A STAR player ready for a five-star showing.
NSW centre Jarryd Hayne yesterday vowed repay the Blues — and coach Laurie Daley — in State of Origin III.
Queensland, be afraid. Very afraid.
Hayne was heavily criticised for his substandard game-two performance but the Titans champion told The Daily Telegraph he was now ready to rip in.
“I just want to make amends for the mistakes I made,” Hayne said. “There weren’t a lot but they were crucial.
“I just have to move on from it. The only way you make it right is how you play the next game.
“And I want to play my best. The reality is though you have to go through the little things, like training and video.
“I was disappointed. I probably forced my hand a little bit.
“For me, I knew straight away that I was disappointed with my game.”
Ever since making his debut for Parramatta as an 18-year-old in 2006, Hayne has always had that x-factor.
“But I have the experience to know now when it’s on and when it’s not,” Hayne said.
“That was probably something I was disappointed with.”
With critics calling for his head following game two, Hayne said he didn’t fear being dropped.
“I just tried not to think about it,” he said. “I just wanted to get back and play good footy for the Titans.”
Worryingly for Queensland, Hayne goes into Origin III with even more purpose. Blessed with that natural, raw ability to single-handedly tear apart any opposition defence.
“I just want to prepare well. Go in and play good footy. I have always had that mentality — the footy just looks after itself,” he said.
Hayne spoke passionately about repaying the confidence shown in him by Daley.
“That is huge. It is something I am grateful for. He has shown faith in me and I definitely appreciate it,” he said.
“For Loz to come out and say he was going to pick me, that was definitely something I appreciated and, as a player, something you respect.”
NSW will hold their first training session today in Cudgen after arriving in Kingscliff on Monday night.
The team is calm yet hungry.
“We’ll have a good week at training and prepare to play our best footy on Wednesday. It’s always good being in camp,” Hayne said.
“It’s a blessing to be part of Origin. It’s not just the game but the week in camp. You thrive on everything, playing with the best players in the game.
“It’s something I have always loved.”
