FOR the first time in a long time, the Blues are once again the dominant force in State of Origin football.
Boyd Cordner’s men wrapped up the series in two games on the back of a new coach in Brad Fittler, a host of new players and a whole new attitude that saw the people of New South Wales get behind them like never before.
Now, the fans have their chance to name the best player across the three matches with The Daily Telegraph’s Peoples Choice Award.
The winner will be announced at the NSWRL Awards night on September 10th at The Star.
THE CONTENDERS
James Maloney
Guided the Blues down the stretch in both victories, standing up and giving them the composure they’ve lacked so often during Queensland’s streak.
One of Brad Fittler’s most important players.
Damien Cook
What a debut series! The pick of the rookies, Cook was one of the Blues best attacking weapons throughout the three matches, striking up an instant combination with James Tedesco and seeming to tear Queensland apart every time he ran the ball.
James Tedesco
Tedesco’s performance in Origin I will go down as one of the best in Origin history as he scored a try and played a vital role in two more to lead New South Wales to a crucial victory in their quest to end Queensland’s dominance.
He also crossed for a crucial try in Origin III and pulled off a brilliant trysaver on Kalyn Ponga in Origin II.
Boyd Cordner
The skipper worked like a dog through all three matches in his best series to date.
Judged best on ground in Origin II, Cordner grew as a leader and as a player in his maiden Origin triumph and deserves every accolade he gets.
Tom Trbojevic
Another rookie, Trbojevic looked like he was made for Origin. His workrate and carries from his own end were vital in the first two matches and he crossed for two tries, including a length of the field effort in Origin III. Brad Fittler’s pick for player of the series.
Latrell Mitchell
An out and out fan favourite, Mitchell powered his way over for two tries in the first two matches of the series and was always a threat on the left edge. His battles with Will Chambers were a highlight.
Josh Addo-Carr
Another popular rookie, Addo-Carr used his speed and evasion to great impact throughout the series, also crossing for two tries in the first two matches. Him and Mitchell could be Origin players for years to come.
David Klemmer
The reigning Brad Fittler medallist was on the brink of missing selection for Origin I but scraped in and made the most of it. The most experienced middle forward in the squad, he dominated Queensland whenever he took the field.
