NRL players including Frank Pritchard, Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood have been praised for coming to the aid of a man with disabilities recently.
Sean Brown was on holidays in Fiji with his family when a tsunami warning hit, forcing them to evacuate. Brown’s dad John is disabled, and needed help to climb to the top of the highest peak of the island to ensure his safety.
“We were swimming around the pool and suddenly we all had to race up the safe spot of the hill,” Brown, of Picton, said. “We got out of this buggy and I was struggling to get my dad out. There were a heaps of blokes sitting around not giving a damn. All of a sudden you see Eastwood and Pritchard pick my old man up and carry him on their shoulders up the hill.
“We thought it was unreal. When we got to the top Kasiano was giving water to my dad and taking care of him.
“They ran down from the top of the hill and away from their families to help. It was good to see those blokes were willing to help when no one else was. They saw us struggling.”
The players were in Fiji for Kasiano’s wedding.
WILL TAYLOR MAKE IT?
DON’T assume the Coal Train is making a permanent stop in Canberra.
Dave Taylor is only contracted with the Raiders until the trials commence, and while his teammates are happy to talk the up the giant forward — and there have been several reports suggesting he’s a done deal — we keep hearing it is still a fair way off from happening, if at all.
NO GOLDEN OLDIES
PAPERWORK and insurance policies have seen some club’s baulk at sending retired stars to next week’s Auckland Nines tournament.
DALEY GIVES ROBERTS THE BLUE LIGHT
NSW coach Laurie Daley contacted James Roberts not long after the NRL integrity unit confirmed there would be no action taken against him because of a lack of evidence.
The NSWRL had decided to ban Roberts from attending Friday’s Emerging Blues camp because it was “inappropriate’’ to have him around while an investigation into a Gold Coast nightclub incident was pending.
NSWRL made it clear they’d still welcome him if the matter was resolved. Loz called Roberts and told him he was welcome, but they both agreed the ensuing media circus was not ideal.
Roberts spent Australia Day on the Sunshine Coast with family.
