Offloaded by the Tigers last year, Suli was sacked by the Bulldogs just 28 days into his deal. His final chance came in the form of a phone call.

Moses Suli admits he was too fat for first grade.

“I thought my career was over,’’ Suli said of the time he blew out to 125kg.

“I didn’t think I would ever play again. I thought I was finished when the Bulldogs let me go. I thought my career was gone. It was my weight. I couldn’t drop my weight.’’

Now the Manly centre has played a big role in the Sea Eagles’ stunning win over the Sharks to set up a showdown with South Sydney.

Offloaded by the Tigers last year, Suli was sacked by the Bulldogs just 28 days into his deal.

His final chance came in the form of a phone call.

“Manase Fainu is my best mate,’’ Suli said.

“He called me and said he would have a chat to Manly and try and get me a start. After that I got a call from Manly and they said they would take a chance. They said I could have a shot at reserve grade.”

Suli said he was lazy during his short stint with the Bulldogs and often late or absent.

“I wasn’t loving training,’’ Suli said

“And I wasn’t enjoying football. I was lost and I didn’t know what I wanted to do. My diet was a big problem and I was fat.”

Suli, 21, made his NRL mark on Saturday night when he helped Manly upstage the Sharks in a devastating finals performance.
