Patrician Brothers College Fairfield have stormed into the NRL Schoolboy Cup quarter-finals undefeated, after overpowering All Saints College Maitland 48-0 on Wednesday.

Fairfield proved too dangerous across the park, with nine players crashing over in the one-sided contest at New Era Stadium.

Captains Yeyha Ayache and Josh Alhazim lauded their side’s incredible team effort.

“We’ve been training hard, making sure we got our plays right, and it showed today … hopefully we can get the win in quarters,” Ayache said.

Alhazim added: “Our middles were awesome, for the last three games they have been.

“If we work through the middle, we can win games, and that’s what we did today, we worked through the middle and earned the right and then you can do all the fancy stuff out wide.”

Fairfield’s prop Jordan Miller was, again, formidable.

Not only was he the biggest kid on the field, but the 16-year-old created plenty of opportunities through strong carries and smart offloads. It’ll be exciting to see him in action for the CCC side at next week’s NSW School Championships.

Miller credited former NRL star Frank Pritchard, who is coaching Fairfield, and his recent Harold Matts season with the Magpies for helping him take his footy to another level in 2021.

“(Pritchard) was always a player you looked up to when you were younger. Now he’s a coach, it’s great, he’s always giving us little tips,” Miller said. “Our school is very much the underdogs, I’m grateful for where we are right now, hopefully we can keep pushing on.”

“(My main takeaway was) keeping the fight, staying in the contest during the game, train hard and do those extras” Ayache said.

Alhazim added: “I learnt to show a bit more heart, work as a team. I really cherish the moment, be grateful, that’s what the whole team took from that grand final.”

It was a tough loss for Maitland, who were unable to replicate their brilliant performance in Round 2 of the competition

Fullback Jackson Ekerford busted his guts and pulled off a brilliant try-saver against Fairfield’s own no.1 Taj’h Colqunoun.

Halfback Fletcher Sharp and prop Nicholas Tuliatu also never gave up. But Fairfield proved too fast and strong, forcing Maitland to spend most of the match in defence.

Miller opened the scoring early, barging over a handful of opponents.

Five-eighth Chad Daniels followed suit, before putting his centre Sione Lolohea over on the left. Centre Perosi Papalii and Ayache then crossed and, thanks to great goal kicking by Colqunoun, Fairfield led 26-0 at half time.

Alhazim danced around defenders to cross in the second half, before his younger brother Matthew Alahazim notched a try of his own.

Four-pointers to Corey Akers and Sam Samani allowed Fairfield to secure their third consecutive NRL Schoolboy Cup victory.
