Roosters forward Boyd Cordner contesting one-match ban for punching the Eels' Matt Ryan

UPDATE: BOYD Cordner is the latest NRL star to land in strife for fighting - with the Roosters forward to contest a one-match ban for striking Parramatta's Matt Ryan.

In the wake Paul Gallen's one-game suspension for his Origin I stink with Nate Myles, Cordner was yesterday charged by the NRL's match review committee for the fight in Friday night's game against the Eels.

The brawl erupted in the 55th minute of the match at Parramatta Stadium with Cordner landing several punches. Ryan wasn't charged for his involvement in the fight.

The Roosters today advised the NRL that they will challenge the charge, entering a plea of not guilty.

He will front the NRL judiciary on Wednesday at 6pm.

Cordner's grade-one charge is less than what Gallen copped for the three punches he landed on Myles in last week's Origin series opener.

Gallen was suspended for one game but on a grade two charge and missed Cronulla's loss to Melbourne on Sunday night.

Sonny Bill Williams was charged by the match review committee for his high shot on Ryan in the 70th minute but is free to play the Warriors after escaping with a grade-one careless high tackle charge.

Terry Campese was also hit with a grade-one dangerous contact charge for unnecessary use of the knees in a tackle in an incident involving Broncos flyer Jack Reed last night, but will avoid suspension.

Meanwhile, Parramatta prop Darcy Lussick didn't bother with being politically correct when he was asked for his thoughts on the Gallen-Myles incident.

Lussick himself recently returned from a two-match ban for striking and also copped a three-match suspension in 2011 for his role in the "Battle of Brookvale" when he was playing for Manly against Melbourne.

One of the toughest young forwards in the game, Lussick said: "That's what everyone wants to see in an Origin game.

"I thought it was quite good of Nate Myles to come out after and say that's Origin and that it should be left on the field."
