NEW SOUTH WALES
1 Corban McGregor 2 Jessica Sergis 3 Tiana Penitani* 4 Isabelle Kelly 5 Shakiah Tungai*6 Kirra Dibb* 7 Maddison Studdon 8 Simaima Taufa 9 Kylie Hilder 10 Vanessa Foliaki 11 Kezie Apps 12 Shontell Stowers* 13 Hannah Southwell. Interchange: 14 Botille Vette-Welsh*15 Holli Wheeler 16 Takilele Katoa* 17 Millie Boyle* 18 Shaylee Bent
*denotes debutants
Analysis: It’s something of a new-look Blues side with a host of changes from the team that won last year’s historic match 16-10 but there’s still plenty of quality. Reigning Golden Boot winner Isabelle Kelly, clever halfback Maddie Studdon and dominant forwards Simaima Taufa and Kezie Apps round out a strong squad.
QUEENSLAND
1 Chelsea Baker 2 Karina Brown 3 Stephanie Mooka* 4 Amber Pilley* 5 Meg Ward 6 Ali Brigginshaw 7 Jenni-Sue Hoepper 8 Heather Ballinger 9 Brittany Breayley 10 Steph Hancock 11 Tazmin Gray 12 Annette Brander 13 Rona Peters. Interchange: 14 Amy Turner 15 Tallisha Harden 16 Chelsea Lenarduzzi 17 Jessika Elliston* 18 Elle Stitt*
*denotes debutants
Analysis: Brisbane’s victorious NRLW side from last season was built on the back of Queensland stars and the Maroons have rolled out the big guns. Ali Brigginshaw is one of the best players in the women’s game with her kicking, vision and creativity. Hooker Brittany Breayley, last year’s Dally M player of the year, is dynamite around the ruck while tough front-rower Steph Hancock and cagey fullback Chelsea Baker are two more to watch.
NEW ZEALAND VS TONGA
Saturday, June 22nd, Mt Smart Stadium, 3:40pm, AEST
NEW ZEALAND
Leeson Ah Mau, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Jesse Bromwich, Kenneath Bromwich
James Fisher-Harris, Kieran Foran, Jahrome Hughes, Shaun Johnson, Isaac Liu, Joseph Manu, Benji Marshall, Esan Marsters, Ken Maumalo, Briton Nikora, Brandon Smith, Zane Tetevano
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (c)
Analysis: Benji Marshall is back in the Kiwis squad for the first time in seven years and he’s expected to partner Shaun Johnson in the halves. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has retained the captaincy but is expected to be shifted to the wing to accommodate Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. With just one recognised hooker in the squad - Melbourne’s Brandon Smith - either Jahrome Hughes, Kieran Foran or Kenny Bromwich can be expected to spend some time at dummy half. The loss of Martin Taupau to Samoa is a blow but in Jesse Bromwich, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, James Fisher-Harris, Leeson Ah Mau and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves there’s still plenty of good middles for Michael Maguire to choose from.
TONGA
John Asiata, Manase Fainu, Andrew Fifita, Addin Fonua-Blake, David Fusitu’a, Siliva Havili, Will Hopoate, Solomone Kata, Sione Katoa, Tuimoala Lolohea, Manu Ma’u, Tevita Pangai Jnr, Kotoni Staggs, Tevita Tatola, Sio Siua Taukeiaho, Jason Taumalolo, Peni Terepo, Daniel Tupou, Sitili Tupouniua
Analysis: Even with Andrew Fifita expected to miss the match through suspension Kristian Woolf has a dynamite side on his hands, led by Jason Taumalolo, Sio Siua Taukeaiho, Tevita Pangai Junior and Addin Fonua-Blake. Veterans Will Hopoate and Siliva Havili will line up in the spine, along with Tuimoala Lolohea, the sole Super League player included. Exciting Manly hooker Manase Fainu turned down a spot in the New Zealand squad to play for Tonga and he’ll be one to watch.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA VS FIJI (womens)
Saturday, June 22nd, Leichhard Oval, 3:40pm
PNG ORCHIDS
Aileen Soni, Alvina Hetra, Amelia Kuk, Carol Humeu, Catherine Anjo (c), Elsie Albert, Gloria Kaupa, Heather Ario, Jacobeth Wake, Joan Kuman, Lancy Laki, Lekkielia Brown, Nicole Mato, Rosetta Kapo, Samantha Kuman, Shae Yvonne Dela-Cruz, Shirley Jerry, Theresa Aiton, Vero Waula, Winnie Stevens.
FIJI BULIKULA
Timaima Ravisa, Roela Radiniyavuni, Patricia Raikadroka, Tanika Marshall, Limaina Wai, Teaghan Hartigan, Sere Naitokatoka, Canecia Sims, Ateca Leiyamo, Analei Netzler, Talei Holmes, Josephine Maejiirs, Jiowana Sauto, Vilisi Vakaloloma, Losena Qiolevu, Merewairita Nai, Asena Rokomarama, Eloise Vunakece.
FIJI VS LEBANON
Saturday, June 22nd, Leichhardt Oval, 5:30pm
FIJI
Marcelo Montoya, Suliasi Vunivalu, Isaac Lumelume, Mikaele Ravalawa, Maika Sivo, Siti Moceidreke, Brandon Wakeham, Tui Kamikamica, Joe Lovodua, Junior Roqica, Viliame Kikau, Ta’ane Milne, Jason Bukuya, D’Rhys Miller, Salesi Fainga, Korbin Sims, Penioni Tagituimua, Ratu Nanovo.
Analysis: It’s not a Fijian team without some crackerjack wingers and in Maika Sivo, Sulisai Vunivalu, Mikaele Ravalawa and Marcelo Montoya the Bati have plenty of speed, size and skill out wide. The rising Tui Kamikamica and the experienced Korbin Sims are both big inclusions but the star of the show is hulking backrower Viliame Kikau, who will be a serious weapon on the left edge. Losing Apisai Koroisau is a tough one given Fiji’s lack of top class spine players but Joe Lovodua is talented and versatile while Siti Moceidreke is a sharp operator.
LEBANON
Jalal Bazzaz, Toufic El Hajj, Ahmad Ellaz, Elie El-Zakhem, Robbie Farah, Amer Ghazzaoui, Kayne Kalache, Nick Kassis, Jacob Kiraz, Anthony Layoun, Michael Lichaa, Allan Lockwood, Bilal Maarbani, Tim Mannah, Josh Mansour, Abbas Miskie, Reece Robinson, James Roumanos, Khaled Tamer.
Analysis: Mitchell Moses and Adam Doueihi are big outs for the Cedars but Robbie Farah, Michael Lichaa and Tim Mannah return from the 2017 World Cup squad and they’ll be joined by Josh Mansour, who last played for Lebanon in 2009. Former Raiders, Eels and Roosters winger Reece Robinson, currently playing for Queanbeyan, is another notable inclusion.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA VS SAMOA
Saturday, June 22nd, Leichhardt Oval, 7:30pm
Papua New Guinea
Edene Gabbie, Edwin Epape, Enock Maki, James Segeyaro, Junior Rau, Justin Olam, Kurt Baptiste, Kyle Laybutt, Lachlan Lam, Luke Page, Moses Meninga, Nixon Putt, Rhadley Brawa, Rhyse Martin, Stanton Albert, Terry Wapi, Xavier Coates, Zev John.
Analysis: Michael Marum has named something of a new-look squad with five debutants in line for their Kumuls debut. Wynnum-Manly’s Edene Gebbie is the one to watch with the exciting winger/fullback currently leading the Queensland Cup in tackle busts, hit ups and running metres - between him and Justin Olam PNG have plenty of strike out wide. Lachlan Lam is expected to line up alongside Kyle Laybutt in the halves after the legendary Ase Boas was overlooked following an up and down year with the PNG Hunters.
Samoa
Anthony Milford, Josh Aloiai, Fa’amanu Brown, Michael Chee Kam, Herman Ese’ese,
Raymond Faitala-Mariner, James Gavet, Hymel Hunt, Jamayne Isaako, Mason Lino, Jarome Luai, David Nofoaluma, Junior Paulo, Marion Seve, Jaydn Su’A, Jorge Taufua, Martin Taupau, Chanel Harris-Tavita.
Analysis: Brisbane’s Anthony Milford leads a Samoa side bolstered by the defections of Jamayne Isaako and Martin Taupau from New Zealand. Between Milford, Mason Lino, Jarome Luai and Chanel Harris-Tavita, Samoa boast perhaps the best spine of any Tier 2 nation and they have plenty of power up front with Junior Paulo, Taupau, Herman Ese’ese and Josh Aloiai forming a strong forward pack.
STATE OF ORIGIN
Sunday, June 23rd, Optus Stadium, 7:50pm
NEW SOUTH WALES
1. James Tedesco, 2. Blake Ferguson, 3. Tom Trbojevic, 4. Jack Wighton, 5. Josh Addo-Carr, 6. James Maloney, 7. Nathan Cleary, 8. Daniel Saifiti, 9. Damien Cook, 10. Paul Vaughan, 11. Boyd Cordner (c), 12. Tyson Frizell, 13. Jake Trbojevic
Interchange: 14. Dale Finucane, 15. Tariq Sims, 16. Cameron Murray, 17. Wade Graham
Analysis: Brad Fittler has rung in the changes with Latrell Mitchell, Angus Crichton, Cody Walker, Josh Morris, Nick Cotric, David Klemmer and Payne Haas dropping out and Blake Ferguson, Tom Trbojevic, Daniel Saifiti, Dale Finucane, Tariq Sims and Wade Graham coming in. Dumping Mitchell has proven to be the most controversial decision of Fittler’s Origin coaching career with the Roosters superstar making way for Canberra’s Jack Wighton.
QUEENSLAND
1. Kalyn Ponga, 2. Corey Oates, 3. Michael Morgan, 4. Will Chambers, 5. Dane Gagai, 6. Cameron Munster, 7. Daly Cherry-Evans (c), 8. Dylan Napa, 9. Ben Hunt, 10. Josh Papalii, 11. Felise Kaufusi, 12. Matt Gillett, 13. Josh McGuire.
Interchange: 14. Moses Mbye, 15. Tim Glasby, 16. David Fifita, 17. Jarrod Wallace
Analysis: Jarrod Wallace and Tim Glasby replace injured forwards Joe Ofahengaue and Jai Arrow with Dylan Napa starting up front. The rest of the team is unchanged from the side that won Origin I.
