Rabbitohs star Cameron Murray breaks silence on heartbreaking Achilles injury

Cameron Murray has spoken publicly for the first time since his heartbreaking, season-ending Achilles injury, when he went down just minutes before superstar teammate Latrell Mitchell.

Shattered South Sydney skipper Cam Murray has spoken publicly for the first time since sustaining a season-ending Achilles injury, declaring: “It wasn’t meant to be.”

Murray suffered the heartbreaking setback at training last Wednesday just minutes before teammate Latrell Mitchell injured his hamstring.

While Murray is unlikely to play again this season after surgery, Mitchell hopes to return to rugby league in eight weeks.

Wearing a blue hospital gown, Murray posted a photo of himself inside a Sydney hospital with his left leg heavily bandaged and taped.

There were crutches in the corner of his hospital room.

Murray put on a brave smile and a thumbs up.

“I was pushing hard to be fit and ready for round one this season but wasn’t meant to be,” he posted.

“Very grateful to everyone who has reached out since Wednesday and offered their support, it means a lot to me knowing I have so many good people in my corner!

“Will take the rest that I need and then back to work. Keen to watch the boys rip in soon. Appreciate you all.”

Teammates Keaon Koloamatangi and Siliva Havili posted love hearts while former Rabbitoh Tom Burgess wrote: “All the best, Skip, you got this.”

Murray attracted hundreds of online messages of support.
