QUEENSLAND Origin star Johnathan Thurston and his fiancee Samantha have celebrated the birth of their first child.
Thurston, who battled a groin injury in the Maroons' 14-6 loss to NSW on Wednesday night, had a positive end to a turbulent week when Samantha gave birth to a girl yesterday.
The name of their daughter has yet to be publicly announced but sources close to the couple confirmed Samantha and the baby are healthy.
Despite playing injured in the Origin opener at ANZ Stadium, Thurston is refusing to give up hope of running out for the Cowboys against Canterbury tonight in Townsville.
Cowboys coach Neil Henry has yet to formally rule out Thurston and will give his star playmaker until an hour before kick-off to prove his fitness.
However, it is understood Thurston is a 50-50 proposition at best and unlikely to face his former club, given the repercussions of sustaining more damage ahead of Origin II on June 26.
