Phil Rothfield reveals Darryl Brohman 2GB bust-up in wake of Erin Molan-Andrew Johns feud

The Erin Molan-Andrew Johns feud made headlines and rocked rugby league, but it also caused a never-before-revealed radio walkout. FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED.

‘This is bull---!’- Triple M radio host storms off show

Phil Rothfield has lifted the lid on his fallout with 2GB radio personality Darryl Brohman that followed his story on the Erin Molan-Andrew Johns feud.

The veteran rugby league journalist has revealed he walked out of 2GB’s Continuous Call Team in 2019, moments before the show went to air, after Brohman launched a tirade at him.

Brohman’s anger, according to Rothfield, stemmed from his reporting on how Molan, then a Channel 9 employee, and rugby league immortal Johns no longer worked together on Friday night football.

The Rothfield-Brohman incident came to light on The Daily Telegraph NRL Podcast this week in the wake of a monumental blow up at Triple M’s Sydney radio studio where anchor Anthony Maroon stormed off the show.

“I had history at 2GB, I stormed out and dropped the headset one day,” Rothfield told co-hosts Michael Carayannis and Brent Read.

“I had done a story on Erin Molan and Andrew Johns’ refusal to work together.

“It became quite a major story and Darryl Brohman didn’t like it.

“Just as we are about to go on air he gave it to me and it was quite heavy. So I took the headset off and walked out.”

Unlike last weekend’s Triple M incident, Rothfield said he stopped the potentially fiery clash from going live to air.

“The reason I (walked out) was that I was worried I was going to blow up if we had have gone on air and I just didn’t want to risk it.

“So I took off.”

When asked by Carayannis what was the current state of his relationship with Brohman, Rothfield replied: “He is a former member of our coffee club”.

“I was really disappointed and I thought Erin needed to be stood up for. A really, really important story, and I was disappointed that Channel 9 didn’t really do anything about it at the time, so I wrote it.”

Molan, who co-hosts 2Day FM’s breakfast program, quit Channel 9 last December to join Sky News.
