THE NRL has two new commissioners after Racing NSW boss Peter V’landys and Sydney corporate lawyer Glen Selikowitz were voted in after a secret ballot of the 16 clubs.

Former Collingwood boss Gary Pert missed out.

V’landys and Selikowitz will be voted on to the ARL Commission board as the representatives of the 16 NRL clubs at next week’s AGM.

NSW Rugby League boss George Peponis and Queensland Rugby League boss Bruce Hatcher will also go on to the new-look board.

Pert was in the middle of an embarrassing bungle when his application, submitted by new Gold Coast chairman Denis Watt, arrived after the 5pm Sydney deadline - because it was still only 4pm in Queensland.

He was later granted an extension but failed to get the required numbers at Thursday’s secret ballot.

V’landys has a strong financial background, a trait which will be crucial on the revamped ARL Commission.

He also has strong government influence and was instrumental in getting the NSW Government to give the racing industry a $235 million rescue.package during the horse flu epidemic in 2007.

Selikowitz is a corporate lawyer who was involved in the Super League war, acting for the ARL, and recently left his position to take up the role of Gretel Packer’s personal attorney.

Pert is a former AFL player who quit his job as Collingwood chief executive last year after 10 years in charge.
