Origin legend Trevor Gillmeister challenges Anthony Milford to take game to next level

QUEENSLAND Origin great Trevor Gillmeister has called on Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford to take the next step on his way to rugby league stardom.

QUEENSLAND State of Origin great Trevor Gillmeister has called on Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford to take the next step on his way to rugby league stardom by demanding the football.

Gillmeister is a huge fan of Milford and wants him to take control of games more often.

“I think Anthony started playing really good footy towards the end of the season last year,” Gillmeister said.

“I think he’s a confidence player. When he gets his confidence up he’s really hard to stop.

“They (the Broncos) need him to stand up this year and be a bit more dominant.

“I know he likes to play off the top off his head but he needs to be a bit more forthright when he wants the footy.

“Sometimes he really looks like he wants the footy, but he doesn’t talk about it. He doesn’t demand the football.”

Gillmeister also tipped Milford’s Broncos halves partner Ben Hunt to take his game to the next level with St George Illawarra next season.

“Sometimes it’s the best thing, they can move on, get to another club, rejuvenate, work with different coaches, different players, a different environment,” said Gillmeister, who played for four top-flight clubs in his distinguished career.

“I would have got stale if I stayed at the same club all the time. I know some blokes can do it, but I think it’s really good for his (Hunt’s) development.”
