What’s the Buzz: Two women trade blows over a segment on The Footy Show

IT could only happen in junior rugby league — two women in a sideline stink over the Footy Show, the Big Marn and his harmless Small Talk segment.

IT could only happen in junior rugby league — two women in a sideline stink over the Footy Show, the Big Marn and his harmless Small Talk segment.

And this is the South Sydney junior team at the centre of it — the under-11 boys from the
La Perouse Panthers who featured on a recent show.

Police were called to the club’s home ground last weekend where a 53-year-old female was allegedly assaulting the club secretary, a 47-year-old female.

According to a police statement, the victim and accused had begun a heated argument over which team should have appeared on The Footy Show.

“The victim has begun to walk away after this argument but has heard the accused yelling out to her boyfriend,” the statement said.

“The victim has turned around to see the accused throw a can of Diet Coke at her. The accused stood up from her chair and grabbed the victim’s jumper with her left hand. She has pulled back her right arm and clenched her right fist.

“The accused has proceeded to punch the victim three times in the left cheek. The punches have caused the victim instant pain to her left cheek.”

The man caught at the centre of the dispute says he was shocked to learn of the drama.

“I knew the segment was extremely popular,” Darryl Brohman said, “but I didn’t know mothers were now fighting over me. It’s been a problem all my life.”

The club secretary Lisa Lawrence refused to comment.

She told me to: “Go away — I’m not interested,” then terminated the call.

Eastern Suburbs police have now dropped the case.

“The victim no longer wants any action taken against the person of interest,” said a spokesperson, “They have decided to sort it out through the football club.”

NRL CAN’T FLUSH SCANDAL

THE NRL’s sex tape scandal will not disappear like officials had hoped.

Channel Seven’s Sunday night program continues to investigate the new incident involving two of the biggest names in the game.

A video of two players having sex with a woman in a toilet emerged a month ago.

One NRL club conducted its own investigation but took no action.

The video was doing the rounds among players but, fortunately for those involved, copies were deleted and have not made it on to social media.

EVEN PRINCE HARRY’S A FAN OF AN AUSSIE GOLDEN GIRL

ANNA Flanagan has been turning heads on and off the hockey pitch during the Commonwealth Games

The 22-year-old from Canberra was given the gold medal by FHM magazine for most glamorous athlete in Glasgow

And she clearly has a fan in Prince Harry.

But don’t think Flanagan is sailing by on her looks. Last year, she was world young player of the year and the Hockeyroos have been the dominant force at the Commonwealth Games.

MEDIA SHIELDING MEANS LESS FANS

THE Waratahs had the opportunity to get an even bigger crowd to ANZ Stadium last night but didn’t help themselves by placing media bans on their biggest stars Israel Folau and Kurtley Beale in the build-up.

Someone needs to send Michael Cheika to Super Bowl to see the media hype and excitement around big-time professional sport where every player and all the global superstars get involved.

The Waratahs’ lack of promotion is one of the major reasons why the rahs rahs are the number four football code in this country behind NRL, AFL and soccer.

DUNN T-WRECKS SHOT AT TOP JOB

FORMER Canterbury forward Paul Dunn recently failed in his bid to become chairman of the Bulldogs. It’s hardly surprising considering his criticism of players on social media.

These are his recent Twitter ravings about Tony Williams from the game against the Cowboys.

“We can only hope TRex gets suspended — it is only way to get him out of the team.

“They got rid of Inu and left the REAL Culprit there #Trexhastogo.

“Josh Jackson & Dale Finucane should ask for half of T-Rex’s money, he is a joke.”

THE HEADS-UP ON TRUE GRIT

Ian Heads’s new book is an inspiring read.

A STARK reminder of just how violent rugby league once was can be found in Ian Heads’ inspiring new book, The Night the Music Died, the story of Western Division’s win in the 1974 Amco Cup.

In the middle of their Cup run, Western Division played Great Britain at Orange in a confrontation the great league writer Ernie Christensen called the dirtiest game he ever saw.

One local journo reckoned ‘‘there were more coat-hangers than you’d find at the local drycleaners’’. The book also features a great chapter on former cult hero TV Ted Ellery

ADP’S SWANSONG

ALESSANDRO Del Piero lands in Sydney today to prepare for his first showdown with Juventus in the A-League All Stars match next Sunday at ANZ Stadium.

It may be his last professional game, as the superstar has remained vague about his playing future since leaving Sydney FC in April.

Of course, ADP is a living legend of Juve after 11 years as captain and 700 games.

PHANTOM MENACE

RUMOURS continue of player unrest at the Bulldogs over the departure of popular skipper Michael Ennis.

Origin halves Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds are playing poorly and the forwards have lost all their oomph. Ennis himself is struggling big time. They have now lost three in a row.

On current form they will be flat out making the finals, let alone the top four.

SAINT

CONGRATULATIONS to all rugby league types involved in the big fundraiser for Simon Dwyer and special mentions to veteran agent Wayne Beavis and Freddy Fittler for their roles in organising the function that raised more than $200,000.

SINNER

THERE is only one back-stabbing, destabilising staff member causing all the drama behind the scenes at the Wests Tigers. It’s not Robbie Farah or Grant Mayer. He needs to go before this club can move forward.

BABY ENNIS ARRIVES

THIS is the lovely text message from Michael Ennis to his mates on Friday morning.

“Baby Ennis no 4 came into the world last night. A beautiful little girl! She was 6 pound 10, 49cm. So amazing. Mum is doing really well. So proud of them both. No name just yet.”

GUS A TWITTER QUITTER

JUST as the Panthers warm up for finals football, Phillip Ronald Gould AM has mysteriously closed his Twitter account and no longer interacts with Panthers fans on social media. I texted the great man to find out why but got no reply.

THE KURT KNOCKERS

INTERESTING times in Newcastle over the future of veteran Knights star Kurt Gidley. The 32-year-old is under contract for next season but many believe the CEO should be tapping him on the shoulder, which is a hard thing considering it’s his older brother Matthew. Gidley has averaged only 12 games per season in the past three years.

STARS OUT FOR MATTY’S 50th

A HAPPY 50th birthday to trainer-to-the-stars Matty Garry who celebrated the milestone with a huge turnout of mates including Origin coach Laurie Daley, Gorden Tallis, David Gallop, John Hartigan and Johny Elias at Mr Tipply’s Hotel on Saturday.
