IT was a job your columnist found even harder than selecting a NSW Origin squad.
Picking the best indigenous rugby league team of the past 40 years to coincide with the NRL’s indigenous round.
Eventually I came up with a team that would blow any side off the park. A mixture of champions and the most wonderfully skilled players.
The biggest problem was leaving out so much incredible talent. You get your automatic selections such as Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston, Arthur Beetson, Gorden Tallis and Steve “The Pearl” Renouf.
But then it gets hard.

Like choosing Nathan Merritt on one wing in preference to Wendell Sailor, John “Chicka” Ferguson or Larry Corowa. Or having to move Laurie Daley to the centre to accommodate Cliffy Lyons at five-eighth.
It just goes to show how much remarkable indigenous talent rugby league has been blessed with.
