HIGHLIGHT I
Another breathtaking victory by Winx, her 15th straight to eclipse the immortal Phar Lap’s best winning sequence.
HIGHLIGHT II
Steve Smith’s magnificent century against India, arguably the best innings of his Test career on a pitch that was almost unplayable.
THE GOOD GUYS WOOING NRL’S FEMALE FANS
NRL MUST BREAK BRONCOS’ MONOPOLY
LOWLIGHT
Shane Warne’s outrageous criticism of Steve O’Keefe’s Test selection before he took his extraordinary haul of 12 wickets to destroy the Indian batting line-up.
HI, GEORGE
Rabbitohs legend George Piggins is heading back to the footy again to watch South Sydney play the Wests Tigers on Friday night at ANZ Stadium as a guest of Souths juniors.
MAJOR CROW
Major sponsor Steggles have signed on for an extra four years at the Sydney Roosters in a huge boost for the club on the eve of the season. Steggles is a wonderful supporter of children’s charities and donates $1000 for every point the Roosters’ NRL side wins by with the club donating an additional $250.
BENCHY MARSHALL
Don’t expect to see Benji Marshall running out for the Broncos in Thursday night’s premiership opener. He has been battling an Achilles injury and we’re hearing he’ll be starting the season in reserve grade.
TOP SHARKS
The Sharks will reveal their best footy side in 50 years at a gala dinner on Friday night. Your columnist was one of four on the judging panel who had the difficult task of picking the players once the obvious selections of Steve Rogers, Tommy Bishop, Gavin Miller, Andrew Ettingshausen and Paul Gallen were picked.
ANOTHER HOPPA
How long until we see another Hopoate in the Manly Sea Eagles NRL squad. Albert Hopoate, 15, son of John and brother of Will, scored four tries in the club’s 54-4 Harold Matthews win over Western Sydney Academy of Sport on Saturday.
UPDATED ALLIANZ STADIUM REVEALED
THIS is a first look inside the renovated change rooms at Allianz Stadium, finished just in time for the start of the Super Rugby and NRL seasons.
The home dressing room, used mainly by the Roosters, Waratahs and Sydney FC, has modern LED lighting as well as a coach’s briefing room specifically requested by Sky Blues mentor Graham Arnold.
Thankfully, even the away rooms have been significantly spruced up, a change that visiting teams will appreciate given little had changed since the stadium opened in 1988.
