FEW are facing challenges this year as tough as 12-year-old Louie Mould.

Louie loves his rugby league and the Cronulla Sharks. He won the Cooma Colts best and fairest award in Under 12s last season and has just finished primary school.

Now the little bloke is laid up in intensive care at Sydney’s The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with severe spinal injuries, the result of a horrible trampoline accident that almost took his life.

PREDICTIONS: Buzz’s 2018 crystal ball

Louie fractured his C3, C4 and C5 vertebrae and faces an uncertain future. The specialists are not sure he’ll walk again.

It’s that time of the year, we’re all making our new year’s resolutions and setting goals.

For Louie it’s the long road to recovery and the rehab. He’ll give it a red hot go. But right now his family need help.

His dad Peter is a bricklayer in Cooma but is off work to be at his son’s bedside at Ronald McDonald House at Westmead. They have a mortgage and medical costs and face a financial struggle.

When I told Sharks coach Shane Flanagan of their plight, he headed straight to the hospital with Mick Ennis and rookie five-eighth Jack Williams, who is an old Cooma junior.

The smile on Louie’s face as they walked in with bundles of Sharks gear said it all. It made his Christmas.

Flanagan was so moved he even offered the family the keys to his own house in the Shire for them to relax while he is on holiday in Queensland. A beautiful gesture.

Others can help too.

There is a fundraiser on Saturday, March 3, in Cooma and the locals are rallying big time. There is a charity fun run and a Go Fund Me page.
