NRLW teams round seven: Romy Teitzel returns to face former side Knights, Jess Sergis remains sidelined for Roosters

The NRLW’s top pointscorer Romy Teitzel will return to Newcastle to face her former club in round seven, while the Roosters, Eels and Raiders are among those who have been forced to rotate heavily. See the full squads analysis for round seven.

In Her Own League: Romy Teitzel

Broncos star Romy Teitzel will make her return to Newcastle as the season’s highest pointscorer in Sundays’ NRLW clash at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The representative second-rower won a premiership with the Knights in 2022 after two years at the club, but has kicked on to great things at the Broncos since returning to Queensland last season.

The 25-year-old currently tops the league with 46 points ahead of Canberra’s Zahara Temara (40) and Roosters’ Jocelyn Kelleher (38), after taking on kicking duties at the Broncos and scoring three tries and landing 17 goals from the past six games.

Teitzel’s accuracy will be crucial in a clash with two-time premiers Newcastle, who have named both Hannah Southwell (ankle) and Georgia Roche (hamstring) to start.

Neither finished Sunday’s win over the Wests Tigers.

Sydney Roosters star Jess Sergis will miss her fourth straight NRLW game with a serious knee injury after she wasn’t named to face Cronulla in an anticipated blockbuster on Sunday.

The NSW and Australia star has sported a knee brace since the injury in round three against the Wests Tigers.

Despite the club insisting she has a chance to return to the field, with three games left until finals there are fears she may not play again this season.

It comes as a further blow to the Roosters who will miss Millie Elliott to suspension against the Sharks as well as fullback Corban Baxter, Brydie Parker, Shawden Burton and Jayme Fressard who are all sidelined with injury.

Meanwhile, a devastating knee injury to lock Kennedy Cherrington has forced Parramatta into changes for Sunday’s clash with the Gold Coast.

Scans have confirmed Cherrington will miss the remainder of the season with an LCL injury she suffered in a 42-12 loss to St George Illawarra on Saturday, with Breanna Eales named to start in the No.13 jersey as a replacement.

It’s another blow for the Eels, with Cherrington joining her sister Rueben as well as fellow forward Boss Kapua on the sidelines with season-ending leg injuries.

For the Titans, Sienna Lofipo has been named to return from an arm injury against the Eels, and has been named to start in the halves.

The Raiders have also been forced into mass changes after a weekend of carnage, with Simaima Taufa and Sereana Naitokatoka both ruled out to comply with concussion protocols, while Hollie-Mae Dodd is serving a one-match suspension. Chante Temara will shift to lock with Emma Barnes moved to hooker, while Monalisa Soliola has also been named to return.

Outgoing Dragons coach Jamie Soward has agreed to coach through to the end of the season and has named the same 17 players to face the Raiders after being told he was not required at the club beyond 2024.
