The mother of NRL star Nicho Hynes has been charged with shoplifting just months after she narrowly avoided being jailed for supplying heroin.

Police confirmed Julie Hynes has been charged with shoplifting after she allegedly tried to steal a number of items from Cronulla IGA.

Officers responded to calls of shoplifting just after 8.30pm on Friday after the 51-year-old woman allegedly tried to leave the store without paying for her items.

She will appear in court in January next year for the charges.

The charges come after Ms Hynes was sentenced to a two year intensive corrections order in May.

She was found guilty of knowingly taking part in supplying 180.7g of heroin after police uncovered a pill press at her home on the NSW Central Coast.

Officers made the alarming discovery while responding to the death of 29-year-old Luke Murphy, who allegedly overdosed from heroin while operating the press in Hynes’ bathroom.

She is not accused of playing any role in his death, and the court heard her role in the drug operation was “extremely limited”.

The NRL star’s mother was sentenced to a jail term which she can serve in the community.

She was directed to reside at her famous son Nicho’s home in Cronulla.

The Cronulla Sharks player supported his mother throughout the proceedings and told reporters he was taking her home to “look after her”.

Two months later, his mother was back in court after shoplifting chocolates and bandaids from Cronulla IGA.

Ms Hynes was approached by police at the same store on Friday night and charged with shoplifting for the second time this year.

She will appear in court in January next year for the charges.
