NRL retirements: Dual premiership winner James Maloney set to call it quits after final season in Super League

He’s one of the most successful players of the past decade, with premierships, Origins, Tests and Dally Ms to his name - and now James Maloney says it’s time to hang up the boots.

Two-time premiership winner and champion five-eighth James Maloney has announced he plans to retire after 13 seasons.

Currently playing with Catalans in the UK Super League, Maloney has declared its time to hang up the boots.

“It’s been one hell of a ride and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Maloney said.

James Maloney enjoyed a celebrated NRL career before heading to the UK.

“Thanks to everyone who has played a part in my career along the way, most importantly my beautiful wife Jess Maloney who has been there from the start.

“Now to finish on a great note.”

A former Dally M five-eighth of the year, Maloney is one of the most successful players of the past decade.

The brilliant goal-kicker won two premierships at two different clubs (Roosters 2013 and Sharks 2016), played in 16 Origins for NSW and featured in three Tests for Australia.

He began his career with the Storm, before enjoying stints at the Warriors, Roosters, Sharks and Panthers before moving to France with Catalans.
