NRL fan brawl: Teenage Roosters and Rabbitohs fans cop a caution

Police have dealt with the teenage NRL fans involved in a violent brawl at Friday’s Roosters vs Rabbitohs match, as the hunt continues for those involved in a separate incident on Sunday.

Five youths aged between 15-17 have been reprimanded by police following a wild brawl which broke out during South Sydney’s clash with the Roosters on Friday night.

The rival fans traded punches in the second half of the match at Accor Stadium between the bitter arch rivals. It led to police investigating and the five teenagers fronting Auburn Police Station on Wednesday.

Police confirmed they had spoken with the youngsters.

“About 9:40pm on Friday police and security at a stadium in Sydney Olympic Park were called to a section of stands following reports of a brawl during a football game,” a spokesperson said. “Officers were told two groups of people were involved in the brawl.

“All people involved were ejected from the venue by security. No injuries were reported.

“Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command immediately commenced an investigation into the incident.

“Following inquiries, police spoke to five boys – aged 15, 17, and three aged 16 – at Auburn Police Station on Wednesday.

“All five have been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act and released.”

The five teens have also been banned from attending any Venues NSW ground which includes Accor Stadium.

Video footage showed a group of more than 10 people exchanging punches as security tried to stop the fight at Accor Stadium.

The groups exchanged a flurry of punches throughout the ordeal which occurred while the scores were level at halftime. A video of the fight widely circulated on social media.

Police said they were continuing to investigate.

The incident last Friday came just days before another ugly altercation at the same venue this time following a match between Canterbury and Newcastle on Sunday night.

Police are on the lookout for eight people after a 21-year-old woman was knocked unconscious while a man, also 21, was assaulted trying to protect the woman.

Detectives investigating released photos of eight people – four men and four women- they want to speak to. All are described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern in appearance and aged in their 20s.
