BRONCOS hooker Andrew McCullough has escaped suspension following his flurry of punches against the Warriors, but young gun backrower Jaydn Su’A is potentially out for the rest of the season.

Su’A suffered a broken ankle in Brisbane’s shock 26-6 loss to New Zealand at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The 20-year-old will consult a surgeon but is facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines and may not return to the field this season.

The loss of Su’A is a blow to the Broncos who have been without Test star Matt Gillett for three months after he suffered a broken neck and calf injury.

“Jaydn has a broken ankle and will be going to see the surgeon tomorrow to decide what is next,” Broncos High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans said.

“With the extent of the injury there is the possibility that he could be out for the rest of the year.”

In some positive news for the Broncos ahead of Friday night’s crucial clash with Penrith at Suncorp Stadium, McCullough escaped suspension after being sin-binned in the Warriors loss.

McCullough unleashed a series of punches on New Zealand’s Chris Satae after the Warriors forward raised an elbow in a tackle.

McCullough was charged with contrary conduct - fighting, but will escape suspension with a $1150 fine.

Maroons prop Josh McGuire was also charged with contrary conduct after making contact with a referee and has received a $1700 fine.

The Broncos are hopeful of forward Tevita Pangai Jr returning from a hamstring injury against the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Canberra have had their worst fears about Jarrod Croker confirmed, with the Raiders captain ruled out for the remainder of the NRL season. Scans have revealed the star centre will need surgery after his left knee cap dislocated in the 38-12 victory over North Queensland on Saturday night. Croker is scheduled to have surgery next week in a bid to start training again by the end of the year.

Even before the severity of the injury was confirmed the club were bracing themselves for the worst.

His absence is a bitter blow as the Raiders aim to keep their finals hopes alive, sitting two games outside of the top eight.
