Penrith centre Taylan May has been stood down by the NRL under their no-fault stand-down policy.

May was already stood down by his club after being accused of domestic violence against his wife and now the NRL has intervened, acting against the Samoan international.

May only recently signed a two-year extension at the Panthers believed to be worth upwards of $1.5 million.

It is understood the Panthers are now preparing to rip up that deal given the allegations that have been laid against the 22-year-old.

May is due to face court next week over allegations that he assaulted his wife. A police statement read: “Police were told about 9pm on Monday 8 April 2024, the man allegedly assaulted a woman known to him during an argument at a home in Werrington. It is alleged he punched her in the face and leg.”

May signed a contract extension with the Panthers in March, committing to stay with the club until the end of 2026.

That agreement is now in jeopardy given the gravity of the allegations.

The NRL also advised Manly that Brandon Wakeham was subject to the No-Fault Stand Down condition under the NRL rules.

Wakeham has been charged with taking part in the supply of prohibited drugs and participate in a criminal group contribute to criminal activity following his arrest on May 15.

The NRL added: “The decisions should in no way be interpreted as a view on the innocence or guilt of either player.

“Under the condition, the players are not permitted to participate as players in the NRL competition or other competitions.”
