Almost two million people tuned into the NRL’s first preliminary finals clash, with the blockbuster television ratings smashing last year’s figures.
More than 1.9 million people watched Melbourne’s win against the Roosters on Friday night which was a significant boost compared to the corresponding game last year.
The number of people who watched the game this year was up by 36.1 per cent compared to the Panthers and Storm preliminary finals clash in 2023.
Those numbers include fans who watched on Fox League, Channel 9 and across streaming platforms.
NRL boss Andrew Abdo said the figures were a reflection of the game’s success this season.
“2024 has already seen record crowds and ratings and the viewership on Friday night continued those strong results,” Abdo said.
“Rugby league fans have been sensational this season and they’ve been rewarded by the players on the field, who have been simply inspirational and remarkable athletes.
“Another memorable grand final awaits us.”
The Foxtel Group announced that the 2024 NRL season broke all records as the most watched of all time across its platforms – Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go and Kayo Sports.
It was the seventh consecutive year of viewership growth.
The Broncos, Storm and Roosters were the most watched teams.
