NRL 2024: Nicho Hynes goes down at Sharks training with ankle injury

The Sharks are sweating on scans after key playmaker Nicho Hynes went down with an injury at training.

Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes has been sent for scans after he suffered an ankle injury during Monday’s training session.

Hynes was scheduled to do media on Monday but was pulled after he went down during a scrimmage and had to be helped from the field.

It’s shocking news for the Sharks who have lost five of their past six matches to slip down to fourth ahead of Friday’s clash with the Wests Tigers who beat them earlier this season.

“The Sharks confirm reports in relation to a training injury suffered by Nicho Hynes earlier today,” a club statement read.

“Hynes injured an ankle late in today’s Sharks training session at PointsBet Stadium and will be sent for scans to assess the extent of the issue.

“The Sharks will communicate more information when available.”

Hynes is their most important player but he’s had a tough few weeks after losing the State of Origin opener with the Blues and then losing his spot to Mitchell Moses, who was the best player on the field in game 2.

The former Dally M Medal winner also missed a conversion attempt against the Dolphins that would’ve sent the game into golden point and then missed a field-goal attempt from point-blank range in a golden point loss to the Bulldogs.

Daniel Atkinson will come into the team and partner Braydon Trindall if Hynes is ruled out of Friday’s game at home.
