South Sydney star Latrell Mitchell will avoid surgery in a bid to play some part in the Rabbitohs’ end of season revival.

Mitchell met with a specialist on Tuesday morning after picking up a foot injury during South Sydney’s win last Thursday.

The injury – at best – will sideline him for about a month but the Rabbitohs are hopeful Mitchell will still feature again this season.

“Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell has been reviewed by a surgeon this morning and a decision has been made to manage his left midfoot injury conservatively, meaning he will not require surgery,” Rabbitohs said in a statement.

“Mitchell will get another scan and review in a fortnight’s time to ensure the injury is progressing.

“The Rabbitohs will provide further updates at the appropriate time.”

Youngster Jye Gray will replace Mitchell at fullback.
