David Furner has become the latest victim of the cull at the Wests Tigers after parting ways with the embattled club.

Furner, who returned to the Tigers alongside Tim Sheens, was told he had a future at the club on the revamped coaching staff before being on the end of a dramatic backflip this week.

He is the latest Sheens’ lieutenant to be shown the door at the Tigers, the club has already parted ways with the man who was hand-picked by Sheens to preside over their rebuild, recruitment boss Warren McDonnell.

Furner, one of the most respected and experienced assistants in the game, was expected to stay at the club and provide an experienced hand alongside rookie head coach Benji Marshall.

However, it is understood his departure was confirmed at a meeting with Marshall on Wednesday morning. Furner could not be contacted on Wednesday night but it is believed he was taken aback by the decision. having earlier received assurances that he would be part of the coaching staff moving forward.

The Tigers have already strengthened their coaching staff for next season with the addition of former South Sydney assistant John Morris.

Robbie Farah is expected to continue in his role as an assistant also after initial suggestions he could take a role in the football department.

The Tigers decided to end a plan which would have seen Sheens coach for another year after finishing with the wooden spoon. Marshall stepped into the breach 12 months ahead of schedule and has begun overhauling his coaching staff as he looks to put his own stamp on the club.
