The NRL’s integrity unit has no plans to punish Nathan Brown after video emerged of the shirtless Eels star being threatened as he was chaperoned into his car.

It is understood the integrity unit will not intervene at this stage based on the video and other evidence made available to them. The Eels have already cleared Brown of any wrongdoing and instead praised him for showing restraint during a dangerous situation.

The footage showed Brown being ushered into a car as former teammate Jarryd Hayne speaks with bystanders who hurl abuse at Brown.

Brown is seen being helped into a car by a female companion as a person – who looks to be a nearby road worker – screams at him.

The man calls Brown a “little b—ch” and a “dog” and yells at the NSW representative to jump out of the car as he holds an object and called him a “sick c---”.

Hayne is seen speaking with another man who is also screaming and gesturing in Brown’s direction. That man is being held back by bystanders as he also holds an object in his hand.

Hayne is calmly talking to the men before asking them “what’s up”. As that happens the car Brown is a passenger in drives off.

Security from the nearby establishment also intervened.

The confrontation is set to have happened about 2am on Sunday March 13 outside Albion Hotel, with an Eels official claiming Brown had “stood up” for Hayne after he had been hassled by a road worker.

Brown, who was returning from injury, had played reserve grade earlier in the day before meeting Hayne at the hotel for dinner with their partners.

Brown returned to the top grade last week and has been recalled into the starting line up to play the Storm on Saturday.

An Eels spokesman praised Brown for the way he acted.

“It was pleasing to see Nathan remove himself from what could have been a volatile situation,” the spokesman said. “Based on the video and our discussions with Nathan, the club is satisfied with the approach we have taken.”

Hayne was released from prison last month. He faces a year-long wait for his third trial over sexual assault allegations after a judge this week refused an application to have the proceedings held in Newcastle.

Hayne will have high profile barrister Margaret Cunneen, SC, defend him. He has maintained his innocence.
