NRL 2022: Brandon Wakeham cops four-game ban for eye gouge, see the video

This is the flashpoint moment when NRL officials took a photo as evidence that St George Illawarra fullback Tyrell Sloan had been eye-gouged.

Canterbury halfback Brandon Wakeham has been suspended for four games after pleading guilty to the eye gouge in a NSW Cup game last Sunday afternoon at Belmore Sports Ground.

Wakeham was referred directly to a judiciary hearing.

The incident came in the second half of the game with Wakeham placed on report.

After the game, an angry Sloan made a further complaint to match officials where a photo of his injured eye was taken by the NRL ground manager as evidence.

The photo was presented to the judiciary panel.

Match officials watched on as the photo was being taken.

Vision of the moment shows Wakeham raking at the face of Sloan.

Wakeham’s suspension continues a horrible season for the Bulldogs, who are last on the NRL competition table.

Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton preferred not to comment on the incident although teammates claim the gouge is “out of character” for Wakeham.

St George Illawarra led 34-12 when the gouge happened, the Dragons finishing with a 40-22 win.
