Intrust Super Cup Finals: NRL talent bolster teams

The 2021 season has come to a halt for Queensland’s NRL teams which means this weekend’s Intrust Super Cup finals will feature an influx of talent.

Some of Queensland’s most exciting young NRL talent aren’t hanging up the boots for the year just yet with a number of players heading back to their Intrust Super Cup feeder clubs in the pursuit of premiership glory.

Brisbane’s Selwyn Cobbo (Wynnum Manly), Gold Coast halfback Toby Sexton (Tweed) and Cowboys forward Corey Jensen (Townsville) are among a host of NRL players named to play in the first week of finals footy in this weekend’s Intrust Super Cup.

The blockbuster weekend kicks off with an elimination final between Redcliffe (5th) and the Sunshine Coast (8th) at Moreton Daily Stadium at 2.10pm on Saturday, which will also be streamed on Kayo.

Fans will also be able to watch the Wynnum Manly (2nd) v Burleigh (3rd) clash on Sunday at 1.10pm and the Devils (1st) v Seagulls (4th) matchup at 3.05pm on Sunday via Kayo.

Broncos players Cobbo, David Mead, Jesse Arthars, Richard Kennar and TC Robati will line up for Wynnum Manly this weekend, up against a Burleigh outfit which could see Titans beast Greg Marzhew and playmaker Tanah Boyd return to the ISC.

Jamayne Isaako and Cory Paix have been named for Souths Logan’s elimination final against Townsville on Sunday afternoon.

Danny Levi will run out for Norths up against Tweed who is set to include Gold Coast’s Sexton and Joseph Vuna.

Despite their 28-22 loss to the Jets last weekend, minor premiers Devils coach Rohan Smith said it was a timely challenge leading into this year’s finals series.

“I thought it was a really good contest last week,” Smith said.

“It was one of those games we had to concentrate a lot, we were tested a lot.

“There was some good practice there in a lot of aspects of the game.

“We would have liked to do some things better but Ipswich played really well.

“Ipswich threw plenty at us in all aspects so it was good practice for short kick-off defending, kick defence and guys just generally trying to score tries and have a crack.

“We tend to vary how we play based on who we’re playing against but our game model doesn’t change too much because we know who we are as a team.”
