In a major blow to South Sydney’s premiership hopes, star halfback Adam Reynolds has been ruled out of football for four to six weeks with torn ligaments in his thumb.

And in a further blow, lock Cameron Murray is facing three weeks on the sideline with a lower leg injury that may even require surgery.

The injuries are a shocking setback for the club as they prepare for a tough month of football against Storm, Cronulla, Panthers and the Parramatta Eels.

X-rays on Saturday revealed the seriousness of Reynolds’ injury suffered against the Canberra Raiders. He ignored the pain and stayed on the field for the full 80 minutes.

Coach Wayne Bennett is likely to move in-form veteran Benji Marshall to halfback and Cody Walker back to five-eighth, meaning he will have to find another fullback replacement for Latrell Mitchell.
