NEWCASTLE playmaker Trent Hodkinson has revealed why he didn’t take the final penalty goal attempt in his side’s heartbreaking 20-18 loss to Canterbury on Sunday.
The Knights were awarded a penalty in the dying seconds after Josh Reynolds was pinged for a block play after a short kick off.
Up to that point, Hodkinson had taken all the shots at goal, slotting three from four.
But when the Knights had a chance to level the scores and send the game into golden point extra time, the kicking duties were handed to youngster Brock Lamb.

“Top effort by our boys but the Dogs here are tough to beat and obviously they did it for Josh (Reynolds) tonight and came out and won it for him,” Hodkinson told Triple M NRL post-match.
“I thought the penalty was on the 40-metre line and obviously Lamby has got the bigger boot. He slots them over there at training all the time.
“When he lined it up it was on the 30 (metre line) and I didn’t want to take it off him because he was zoned in.
“I probably should’ve taken that one. I feel for him.”
