THE benchmark has been set, now it’s up to the rest of the competition to aim up and prove me wrong.
That’s my feelings about the 2017 NRL premiership race — with last year’s grand finalist Cronulla and Melbourne leading the pack by a significant margin.
I have no doubts the likes of the Roosters or Brisbane can compete with the Sharks and the Storm on their day, but they must lift.
With nine rounds remaining in the season, I’ve put together my predicted run home to the finals.
I’ve got Melbourne and Cronulla leading the way ahead of the Roosters, Brisbane and Manly, while the much-hyped Canberra will miss out on the finals.
But could there be a shock contender to come from the clouds? I doubt it, but as rugby league as proven over the years — you never know.
So strap yourself in for a frantic race to the finish.
