In an interview with Phil Gould on Channel Nine’s 100% Footy, the former Queensland Premier - and self-described lifelong rugby league fan - committed a gaffe, reminiscent of his predecessor John Grant.
Grant infamously called confused his team names during a Kangaroos team announcement, naming Cronulla, the Hawks, and Manly, the Seagulls.
So when Gould lightheartedly asked Beattie to name the mascot of Cronulla, he thought the chairman would have no problems.

“To be honest, I wouldn’t have a bloody clue, but I’ll know next week,” Beattie replied with a laugh.
“It’s got to be Cronulla of some kind. It’s too bloody hard, Gus. That’s too difficult.”
Gould replied: “Gee whiz, the last chairman couldn’t answer that question either.”
Many viewers thought Beattie was joking, but he confirmed in a social media post following the show that he had a “mental blank”.
He went to the sharks game at the weekend , went in the sheds afterwards and chatted with Gal and Flanno. He knows who the Sharks are
