CHECK out the highlights, lowlights and talking points from another memorable weekend in sport.

HIGHLIGHT

It was like one of those “Cathy Freeman” moments in sport. Winx and a wow factor of 10. The most beautiful atmosphere at Moonee Valley. Four consecutive WS Cox Plates. The best sporting story of the year by as far as she wins by.

LOWLIGHT

The appalling sideline behaviour of Wanderers coach Markus Babbel, who was red-carded in the Sydney Derby then kicked an advertising sign. An apology after the game was too late. His abuse of the referees was a shocking example to be setting junior coaches.

LOUISE A SUPER SUB

Fox Sports has stood down rugby union anchor Nick McArdle over a recent on-air comment. Louise Ransome stepped into the main gig for the Bledisloe Cup game on Saturday and did a superb job.

BUNNY BRAWLERS

Which two South Sydney Rabbitohs players traded blows on a long and boozy night out last week. We checked it out with the agent, who manages both players. He assured us: “Everything is OK.”

SHOOSH

Which NRL club is facing significant financial issues, despite a $13 million grant, that are starting to concern the bean counters at headquarters.

SAGA TO UNFOLD

The truth will eventually be revealed about Anthony Seibold’s departure from the South Sydney Rabbitohs. It will differ greatly to the version of events that Rabbitohs boss Shane Richardson has been spinning to his media mates.

WAYNE MUST WALK

Wayne Bennett’s hopes of hanging around at the Brisbane Broncos despite signing with the South Sydney Rabbitohs goes against every principle he has supposedly lived by in the past. That a club’s long-term goals are more important than the self-interest of one man. He should move on immediately.

REFS ON NOTICE

Graham Annesley starts as NRL head of football today. He will attend the lavish executive conference at the luxury Blue Mountains resort then get straight down to fixing the toxic culture in the refereeing ranks. We’re tipping heads will roll.
