Monday Buzz: Taren Point player finally cops high shot ban as hunt steps up for abusive fan

A ban has finally been handed down for this outrageous junior league hit – and the hunt for a grub dad who hurled abuse at an unconscious player has taken a new turn.

No ban for brutal junior footy hit

The 16-year-old junior player who knocked an opponent unconscious in Cronulla juniors last weekend has finally been banned.

The Taren Point Titans player had to watch his team’s grand final from the sideline on Sunday afternoon at Shark Park.

His victim, Gymea Gorillas player Ethan Krause, was rushed to Sutherland hospital in an ambulance suffering from severe concussion as a result of the high shot.

Originally the Taren Point Titans player escaped a suspension when a judiciary panel inexplicably ruled he had no case to answer.

The Daily Telegraph then brought it to the attention of NSWRL bosses.

The teenager was eventually charged with a careless and reckless high tackle and chose not to contest it.

He was handed a three-match suspension and missed his team’s Under 17’s grand final against De La Salle on Sunday.

However, this is not the end of the story.

A parent from the Titans team is still facing an indefinite ban from the sidelines.

He was the grub who yelled out “f***ing dig a hole and bury the cat” on a video that was later circulated. This is while the poor Gymea player lay unconscious on the ground.

The father of a Taren Point Titans player has yet to be identified.

However, the president of Cronulla junior rugby league, Nathan Waugh, is on the case.

“It was vile and disgusting language and we are investigating,” he said, “We will implore them (Taren Point Titans) to try to track the individual down.”

President of the Titans Brett Robinson refused to comment when contacted by News Corp.

WHY HYNES COULD PIP PONGA FOR ROOS

Mal Meninga will be taking at least one utility player to England for the World Cup.

We’re talking the likes of Nicho Hynes and Kalyn Ponga, who can both play several positions.

This is where it gets interesting.

Meninga will take into account the character of all his players.

Hynes has had a wonderful season both on and off the field. He is the most outstanding human.

Ponga has had his recent issues.

That he was out on the booze recently, filmed with a team mate leaving a toilet cubicle while out injured, will be taken into consideration.

Ponga has as much natural ability as any player in the NRL.

However he is more than likely to miss out on the World Cup.

Not because he hasn’t played for weeks, but more his attitude.

HIGHLIGHT

Rugby league can sometimes be like a street fight where the toughest players thrive.

No one more so than Jared Waerea-Hargreaves for the Roosters against Storm. It was so good to watch this great enforcer put Nelson Asofa-Solomona in his place and protect his smaller players on Friday night. JWH is as tough as any player to have worn the Roosters jersey.

LOWLIGHT

NRL games that are running for more than two hours because of all the stoppages. This is a sport that brought in the six-again rule to speed the game up. Some games are becoming painfully slow to watch.
