HIGHLIGHT

LOWLIGHT
The ABC uses a player manager as part of their judging panel for the Warren Ryan Medal. At the weekend he gave points to one of his own players. And they wonder why they have no credibility.
RATINGS REALITY
More disastrous television ratings for the A-League. Not even the code’s unofficial Head of PR Simon Hill can defend the Sydney derby ratings on Saturday night. It got only 16,000 — beaten by Play School, Get Smart and Peppa Pig.
WIN OFF THE FIELD
The AFL might get more bums on seats but the NRL gets a bigger audience. On Friday night the Broncos v Souths match got a combined audience of 889,214 on Fox Sports and Channel 9. The Collingwood v Western Bulldogs game had 827,695 on Fox Sports and Channel 7.
CASH CALL
Gold Coast and Manly must be struggling more than most because their CEOs are constantly asking when the next round of NRL funding is coming on their daily phone hook-ups.
CLUB’S BOLD RESCUE
The Canterbury Leagues Club is likely to sponsor the NRL team this year on the front of the Bulldogs’ jersey. This is a brave move from a licensed club that lost $4 million last year, their first loss in memory.
