BALMAIN great Benny Elias has warned Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary to “stop being selfish” by keeping his nephew, Mitchell Moses, at the club.

Moses, who has been pushing for a release for the past month, is on the verge of joining Parramatta on a mid-season switch and could be released as early today.

After a dramatic fallout with the Tigers, his performance in last weekend’s loss to South Sydney was modest at best, with talk he could even be dropped to reserve grade this weekend if he remained at the club.

“I feel sorry for Mitchell,” Elias said on Monday. “His mind is at Parramatta, that’s obvious. His body is at Wests Tigers.

“That’s not good for anyone — the club or for the individual. Ivan Cleary must realise that.

“Ivan has to stop being selfish in keeping Mitchell at the Tigers. He can’t expect to get 100 per cent performances from Mitchell — he’s not going to get it.

“The sooner he is released, the better for the club and the kid.”

The Eels are yet to officially announce Moses’ two-year deal from next season as they waiting and see whether they could poach Moses mid-season.

“I was with Mitchell [on Sunday] night, I could feel his pain and frustration,” Elias said.

“You know what? He’s a good kid and he just wants to devote himself to his footy.

“He had been told by the Wests Tigers’ hierarchy that it’s inevitable he is going to leave the club through the year.

“It’s hard for him, as a professional person, to give his all for the club.”

It would seem the Moses drama will reach a crescendo on Tuesday and seems highly likely he has played his final game for Wests Tigers.

His next match could be representing Parramatta against Canberra this Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.
