Meet Blocker the Psychic Cockroach

REMEMBER Paul the Octopus, who predicted the results of the 2010 FIFA World Cup? Now NSW has its own version ahead of Origin I.

REMEMBER Paul the Psychic Octopus, who predicted the results of the 2010 FIFA World Cup?

Well now NSW has its own animal oracle ahead of tonight's State of Origin opener - Blocker the Roach.

Named after legendary Blues hard man Steve "Blocker" Roach, it’s claimed the intelligent insect can predict the first tryscorer as part of a TAB promotion for tonight's Origin blockbuster.

The Daily Telegraph tested out the cockroach’s skills this morning, with Blocker, who is not related to the praying mantis pose Ray Price used to pull on Maroons, picking NSW back rower Anthony Watmough as first tryscorer.

And while Watmough’s hardly the most likely to cross the stripe first given he’s playing off the bench, we’ll take the juicy odds of $63.75, the highest of any Blue.

Paul The Octopus shot to fame at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, predicting the results of games at a career success rate of 85 per cent.

He foreshadowed the result of Germany’s seven World Cup matches and correctly chose Spain as the 2010 champions.
