Marina Go will resign as Wests Tigers chair and Simon Cook will take over as interim chief executive until Justin Pascoe returns in June, the club announced on Monday.

The head of the Tigers’ board since late 2014 as part of an NRL-enforced restructure in a time of turmoil, Go guided the club to a profit for the first time in their merged history last season.

She informed the board of her decision to resign last December following the end of a maximum four-year tenure, but waited out the salary cap saga to step aside.

She’ll now end her time once another independent director can be found to ensure the board remains constitutionally correct following the resignation of Darren Perry, the only other independent, last December.

“I have no doubt that with a passionate board, a talented and dedicated executive team, a premiership-winning coach and excellent staff as well as a quality playing roster, Wests Tigers remain in good hands who will ensure the success of this club in to the future,” Go said.

Meanwhile, Cook currently sits on both the Tigers board and has been a long-time chief executive of the Wests Tigers Ashfield Leagues club.

He’ll act as the club’s CEO until Pascoe’s six-month ban — back-dated to last December — for salary cap breaches ends on June 19.

Pascoe, who had been provisionally de-registered by the NRL for offering Robbie Farah a big-money ambassadorial role on his exit in 2016, conceded over the weekend an error had occurred.

His contrition is part of the reason he will be allowed to return to the game by NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg.

“I acknowledge that a rule was broken and regret that this occurred,” Pascoe said.

“These actions were never done with intent or deceit and were simply an error that has had an impact on Wests Tigers, its shareholders, members, corporate partners and staff.

“I believe and support the absolute need for integrity in the game of rugby league and I always will.”
