Manly Sea Eagles boss Stephen Humphreys has mysteriously stepped down from his chief executive role.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Sea Eagles board met on Thursday night over an issue that has led to his departure.
Sea Eagles sources reveal questions have been raised around corporate governance dating back two years.
Humphreys will be asked to front the Manly board next week but his position has been described as ‘untenable’ until the issue is resolved.

He will not attend Saturday’s game in Mudgee against the Canberra Raiders.
Manly chairman Scott Penn has informed the NRL of Humphrey’s departure.
NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo declined to comment.
The Daily Telegraph on Friday spoke briefly to a tight-lipped Penn, who was on his way back to Sydney from Tasmania.
“I’m limited to what I can say,” Penn said.
“It’s a legal issue so I can’t comment further. We’ll meet next week to work through it.”
Humphreys was appointed to the role in 2019.
Penn said at the time: “Stephen has had a highly successful business management career and he brings strong leadership and a proven track record of success to the Club.
“We know Stephen will help the Sea Eagles grow to the next level commercially on and off the field.”
The son of former NSWRL boss Kevin Humphreys was previously a player and administrator at Balmain and the Wests Tigers before becoming global head of sales for British Airways.
Humphreys did not respond to phone calls and text messages on Friday.
It is understood club sponsors have been spoken to as part of inquiries into the governance issues.
He has eight children, one of whom, Jamie Humphreys, is a rising NRL star at the Sea Eagles.
