The last time Manly played Penrith at Brookvale Oval the Sea Eagles conceded 42 points in a big loss, which has become the norm this season too.
But captain Daly Cherry-Evans is confident his last-placed side can reverse that result when they host the ladder-leading Panthers on Thursday night.
The Sea Eagles look lost following three straight losses – the club’s worst start to a season in a decade.
Cherry-Evans rates Penrith highly, but he believes his savagely beaten side in the opening rounds can respond with a big win over the Panthers.
“I really do believe it (a win) is coming,” he said on Monday.
“I know people will write us off, and that is understandable because we haven’t played at a level of footy to warrant many people supporting us, but I honestly think that we can get it done this weekend and against a good opposition.
“It is going to be a massive boost for us.
“It is a massive challenge based on where they (Penrith) have grown to in the last 18 months, but there isn’t really any surprises about what is going to happen on Thursday night in regard to us performing.”

Cherry-Evans says the Sea Eagles’ poor start to the season can be attributed to substandard ball control and defence.
He insists his side are working overtime to fix their flaws, but just haven’t been able to click when it matters most on the field.
“It has just been a rough start, it is as simple as that,” he said.
“We are still chasing that first win and obviously being the first three games, it is all being very amplified at the moment.
“We’re working hard behind the scenes to try and get it, but we just haven’t hit the right notes just yet.
“The attack isn’t quite clicking yet and defensively we are leaking a lot of points, so we’ve got both parts of the game to work on.
“I think this weekend can be the weekend for us.”
