THE Sharks have clinched a gutsy 14-12 victory over the Rabbitohs at Sharks Stadium.

8.50pm - FULL-TIME: SHARKS 14 d RABBITOHS 12

The Sharks have held on for a gutsy 14-12 win over the high-flying Rabbitohs at Sharks Stadium.

Cronulla overcame the game-day withdrawals of NSW Origin stars Paul Gallen and Luke Lewis and fullback Michael Gordon to edge out the NRL ladder-leaders, who were riding a four-game winning streak.

Todd Carney's 58th minute penalty goal - after a Sam Burgess try had drawn the Rabbitohs level - was enough to see the Sharks home, and seal a fourth-straight win of their own.

MATCH CENTRE: Sharks v Rabbitohs

8.35pm - SUTTON OFF AFTER KNOCK

Rabbitohs five-eighth John Sutton has been helped from the field after a knock to the jaw.

He looked to have copped a high shot from Jason Bukuya but the referees didn't see anything in it and there was no penalty awarded.

The Sharks lead 14-12 - Todd Carney edged them ahead with a penalty goal - with 12 minutes left to go.

8.11pm - BURGESS BARGES OVER FOR BUNNIES

The second half is just five minutes before it's all square again at Sharks Stadium, thanks to a barnstorming Sam Burgess try.

The big forward charges on to an Adam Reynolds short ball and can't be stopped from close to the line, slamming the ball down.

Reynolds adds the extras and it's 12-all.

7.51pm - HALF-TIME: SHARKS LEAD RABBITOHS 12-6

The Sharks have one last crack at the Rabbitohs line but can't break through.

Jeff Robson thumps a long-range field goal attempt but it's no good, and that's the end of the first half - Cronulla leads 12-6 over the Rabbitohs.

7.48pm - SAM BURGESS ON REPORT

Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess has been put on report for a tackle on Cronulla's Andrew Fifita.

The Rabbitohs have also seen Ben Te'o, who was tonight selected in the Queensland State of Origin side, leave the field through injury.

7.43pm BUKUYA PUTS SHARKS BACK IN FRONT

The Sharks have hit the lead again thanks to a bit of luck - and nice finishing from Jayson Bukuya.

Todd Carney's attempted grubber kick was blocked by John Sutton, only for the rebound to fall to Bukuya.

Bukuya was quick to scoop it up and dart over to score, with Carney adding the extras for a 12-6 lead.

7.32pm - SCORES LEVEL AT SHARKS STADIUM

It's all-square midway through the first half with the Sharks and Rabbitohs scoring a try apiece at a soaked Sharks Stadium.

Josh Morris got the Sharks on the board early, only for Byrson Goodwin to hit back for the Rabbitohs.

7.10pm: TRY! John Morris goes over from short range for the Sharks and it's 4-0. Carney adds the extras to make it 6-0.
