Saturday night’s match against New Zealand was Boyd’s 19th Test and the 26-6 victory was his 19th win for Australia.

“I’ve just been lucky I think” says Boyd.

“I’ve played in some pretty quality teams and was pretty young when I first debuted and only played a game here and there for the first few years.

“I missed the last two years when Australia had a few losses, but I’ll take it.”

Boyd has come full circle since his first Test as skinny winger against Papua New Guinea eight years ago.

After two excellent performances in his last two Tests he’s now entrenched as Australian fullback and an important part of the Kangaroos machine.

Switching to the custodian role for state and country means Boyd assumes more responsibility as a playmaker, a role he has long filled at club level and has begun to relish in representative football.

“I am getting older and playing fullback is (a position) where you contribute more to the team.

“You really see a lot at the back, you have to talk and see what you see and try to give some tips.

“I try to talk when I need to talk and say what I need to say but we’ve got five or six quality guys who can lead this team.”

The cohesion between Boyd and his fellow playmakers played a huge role in Australia’s victory over New Zealand in Perth.

Boyd glided over for the first try of the match and was as classy and composed in both attack and defence.

However, the 29-year old was adamant the Kangaroos will not be resting on their laurels following their impressive win at nib Stadium.

“We can definitely be better. I think we left a lot of attacking opportunities out there. The last pass, or a few lines or just getting the ball over the line, we struggled a bit there.

“We had enough cohesion to get the result but we definitely want to be better in the upcoming games”

“Some boys have had four or five weeks off and while you keep training and keep fit and preparing, its nothing like match fitness.”

As for that unbeaten run, Boyd has no plans for it to end just yet.

“Hopefully we’ll win the tournament and I’ll play most of the games”

“I’m only getting older, so I won’t be playing too many more games. Hopefully there’s a couple more to go.
